Made in the heart of 2011 I got pretty current with the songs on here, maybe too much emphases on the modern rock and not enough classic stuff but whatever it's good stuff.

REM's Minnesota counterparts in critical darlinghood. This song is all about bands who weren't main stream

"I wanna' meet Dave Grohl, I wanna be Dave Grohl" Yeah well who the hell doesn't! Guess what band's next!
6. I'll Stick Around by Foo Fighters

You believe they've been around for sixteen years? This is off their first album

7. Wild Boys by Duran Duran

When this song I liked it because of the driving beat and and the sliding/whiny vocals; it was why a good friend of mine hated the song. The video is . . . well you be the judge.

8. Dance With Somebody by Mando Diao

This is not the Whitney Houston  song about being tired of one night stands this is Swedish awesome music that shares that Duran Duran spirit I think.

9. Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood

I had no idea they were gay, all the girls in the video seemed to love so much!

10.Lazy Bones by Wooden Ships
I don't know if this song rocks or it's just silly
11.Endless Blue by The Horrors

This is from their newest album. Why do they get more and more ethereal and weird, what happened to their creepy nervous angst and rocking spirit?

12.Summer of '89 by Butch Walker and The Black Widows

This song is actually pretty dumb but it's funny and feel good rock so it gets on the mix. Also because I quite enjoyed 1989.

13. Hey Ladies by the Beastie Boys

Yup, from 1989's masterpiece, Paul's Boutique. Okay, I don't know if that's a step too far but the album m did shake asses and get sampling into the next level.

14.No Church in the Wild by Kanye West and Jay-Z

A good beat goes a long way, y'all! I really like some of the songs on Watch The Throne. I don't think it's my favorite album of the year but it's definitely in the top 5! "Your Love is my scripture" That's some cool ass lyrics.

15.Apple Blossom by The White Stripes

On the other side of things this is just a man and his guitar.

16.Maggie M'Gill by The Doors

I used to not care for this sing, thought it was dumb but now I enjoy the bluesiness of it and like to get it on just like the people Tangie Town.

17.Irresistible Forse by Jane's Addiction

Welcome back boys, welcome back with a song that's not great but enjoyable on some level of unoffensive.

18.Olé by Pearl Jam

I like when old bands can keep their energy up. This is a new 2011 song by the old boys that I find quite cool.

19.Silver by Nirvana

I don't know if you can have one without the other. Peral Jam without Nirvana is like The Beatles without the Stones, sort of.

20.Mama, I'm Coming Home by Ozzy Osbourne
and you can't have grunge without metal. This is a great, big stupid sing along that Lemmy of Motothead wrote.

Weekly Mix #79

Oh Boy! 2011 is here for the mixes which means there aren't very many to go. Much of this mix was made after one of the best weeks in music release memory where it seemed like everything good came out!

1. In a Big Country  by Big Country

Bagpipes! 80s rock! It didn't get any bigger for these Scottish dudes. The singer killed himself a few years back from what I hear.

2. Under Cover of Darkness by The Strokes

The Strokes are back!!! In my mix world they've been around forever but in the real world this was the first album in years and the single is delightfully Strokestacular!

3. Breaker, Breaker by Peter, Bjorn and John
This is the best thing the boys of PB&J have done since they blessed us with the ubiquitous ,Young Folks. Worth the wait, maybe.
4. 1,000,000 by R.E.M.

Their first single ever which nobody heard outside of Atlanta for years, you gotta love that 1980s indie rock!

5. Sing by My Chemical Romance

They got lots of play from this song, especially on some add for some TV show.

6. Being Followed by Duran Duran

I love it, I love their come back album!

7. Everybody Have Fun Tonight by Wang Chung

Stupid but fun. Wang Chung will make another appearance with us in the not too distant future.

8. Twenty Yards behind by Dr. Feelgood

9. Let England Shake by PJ Harvy

It has been a long time between PJ Harvy listens for me but I'm glad I listened to this new song.

This was their third single and it was damn catchy for dorks like me.

they'll never get better than Portions for Foxes but they will make some decent tunes.

16.U Should Know Better by Robyn & Snoop Dogg

weird duo but it works and it works well in the Euro disco way

17.Wrong by Depeche Mode

Not a good song to listen to in the middle of the night even though I can't think of any other time I'd want to hear it.

18.Thrones by The Dears

Canadian Rock's best band currently. Arcade Fire and eat a dick straight up.

19.The Crystal Ship by The Doors

Crooning must continue. What is the Crystal Ship anyway?

20.Miss Misery by Elliott Smith
This song would make me kill myself too. This song should have won the Oscar for best song from a motion picture but Celine Dion got it with, My Heart Will Go On, lame. Honestly when you compare the two performances Celine should be embarrassed.

21.Hush by Kula Shaker

It's almost the same as Deep Purple's but is it better than when Charlatans UK did it in the late 80s?

22.Bad Medicine by Bon Jovi
More organ? Let's end on a high rocker!

Weekly Mix #74

If I had thought harder about this mix there would be an REM song and the Replacements song would have been Left of The Dial. Another time perhaps. This is groovy 2010 mix with a whopping 24 songs!

Written by Beck for the Scott Pilgrim movie it is what garage rock should be, short, loud and fun!

2. Shout At The Devil y Mötley Crüe

The crew rocked the 80s like nobody else. Were they a good band? No they were a horrible band but they rocked and somehow they still tour and play to thousands.

3. I'm So Sad, So Very Very Sad by Crash and the Boys

Also from the Scott Pilgrim movie, this one is 13 seconds long and embraces the humor of Rock!

4. Black Rain by Soundgarden

I don't know if this is a new song or an old song or what but it's not bad and it's loud.

5. Quiet Kid by Dead Confederite

Not too big of a fan of this band but tune is grungy modern

6. The Sun Ain't Gonna' Shine Anymore by The Walker Brothers

How deep is your wall of sound? This is a great heartbreak song as it's sweeping and maudlin. The sixties had some amazing music that wasn't by The Beatles.

7. Hot Child In The City by Nick Gilder

Statutory rape? Nah! I don't know, maybe she just looks young, she said she was eighteen. The seventies were a groovy place where you could get away with more creepiness.

8. Tighten Up by The Black Keys

I suppose this is a good example of rock in 2010. I mean it's more white R&B than anything else but 2010 didn't rock so loud, did it?

9. I Don't Believe You by The Thermals
Indie Rock . . . sometimes you are a great thing and sometimes you are just like everybody else. These dudes are from Portland OR.
10.East Bound and Down by Jerry Reed

Theme from Smokey and the Bandit. It's a stupidly awesome song

11.It's Getting Boring By the Sea by Blood Red Shoes

Can you tell that I loved the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack? Here's more music that I totally dug!

12.What Is Life by George Harrison
A Phil Specter masterpiece! This is just a great sounding song from Mr. Harrison's All Things Must Pass album. Love it!
13.Razors by Vermillion Sands

Remember what I said about I Don't Believe You? Well the same applies for these guys.

14.Snobby Little Elf by Morningwood

Well produced Indie Rock is still Indie Rock, especially when it's from New York.

Knowing anything about Bryan Wilson is depressing and sad which is why this song isn't a nice as it should be.

Working dudes everywhere partied to this song while I was still in high school thinking it was all stupid. Kind of still do. I'll say it again My Chemical Romance are current incarnation of Poison.

Critical darlings from Minneapolis! This was what Indie bands in the eighties turned into once signed. This was from the album Don't tell A Soul and supposed to be their big cross over album so they could be bigger than R.E.M.

24.Tell Me Why by M.I.A.
She has more than Paper Planes though nothing is quite that good.

Weekly Mix #70

So . . . This is a nice little mix that goes to various places and genres and decades which is good, right?


1. Kick by INXS
As time goes by INXS just seems to get better and that's really weird. I mean I thought they were a very good band when I was 15 but by the time I was 25 I thought they were lame.
2. Mow by Miss Crazy
Some bands are founded on being Mötley Crüe and in this case it's alright, mama!
3. 99 Problems by Jay-Z
Just let the man rap; it that good even though this is really It Was a Good Day with anger.
4. Round and Round by Ratt
More people love this song than I can agree with. people say it's more than an 80s metal tune but I disagree.
5. Broken Glass by Buckcherry
Rocking out like this doesn't really happen too much in these days.
6. Resistance by Muse
Huge album for this band; it's really all bloated from this point forward . . . that and child support
7. Hollywood by Codeine Velvet Club
Jon Lawler from Fratelis is in this 60s tribute band. Very inspired show music!
8. One Thousand Tears of a Tarantula by Dengue Fever
I thought Dengue Fever was a play on Saturday Night Fever but it's a real and bad thing. These guys are also a heavily 60s inspired group but more psychedelic.
9. Sunshine Superman by Donavan
This is the real deal for 1960s music. If I'm correct Donavan isn't allowed in the US still.
10.My Generation by The Who
More real rock from the 60s! I hated this band and song for years but I came around.
11.(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party) by Hotrats
Covers should all be as innovative as this
12.Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac

Johnette Napolitano from Concrete Blonde lends her pipes to this duet with Paul Westerburg; it crude but cool.

A band I know nothing about.
19.Skinny Little Bitch by Hole

20.Johnny Kick A Hole In The Sky by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Their tribute to their late, first guitarist Hilel Slovak. For some reason this song gets harder and harder for me to listen too as years go by. Something about it is a tough pill.

Weekly Mix Tape Pt 21

This baby is a nice collection of hits with a bit of obscure tunes thrown in for my own sanity. There are a couple of bad ass covers by U2 and G N' R!

A Song about a whore house . . . nice but why is it such a good driving song?
2. To Be A Lover by Billy Idol
Another good driving song. This was the last remnant of Billy Idol being cool and maybe even this as too late.
3. Padrino by Smash Mouth
Just like they say, "A funny song about the mob" Shout out to San Jose!
4. I Put A Spell On You by Marilyn Manson
This version is better than CCR's but is not as weird as Screamin' J's original; it's from The Lost Highway soundtrack
5. Night And Day by U2
Great Cole Porter cover, Red Hot & Blue is a real good album to pick up if you haven't got it in your collection.
6. Knock-Down Drag-Out by Weezer
A nice little ditty about relationships or something
7. I Did It by The Dave Matthews Band
The only Dave Matthews song I have in my collection, the only song that doesn't make me immediately reach to change it.
8. Emotional Rescue by The Rolling Stones
Even the Stones went Disco; it's like U2's "Discotheque" in the realm of rock bands trying to get danceable but much more ridiculous . . . or is it?
9. Bootylicious by Destiny's Child
There's no doubt about it!
10.Are You Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz
The Best Lenny Song? It just might be; I remember the first time I ever heard this song I was in my kitchen eating breakfast on a cold morning and it perked me up more than the coffee I had.

Another fantastic rock cover that I like more than the original. Sorry Nazareth.
