If I had thought harder about this mix there would be an REM song and the Replacements song would have been Left of The Dial. Another time perhaps. This is groovy 2010 mix with a whopping 24 songs!

Written by Beck for the Scott Pilgrim movie it is what garage rock should be, short, loud and fun!

2. Shout At The Devil y Mötley Crüe

The crew rocked the 80s like nobody else. Were they a good band? No they were a horrible band but they rocked and somehow they still tour and play to thousands.

3. I'm So Sad, So Very Very Sad by Crash and the Boys

Also from the Scott Pilgrim movie, this one is 13 seconds long and embraces the humor of Rock!

4. Black Rain by Soundgarden

I don't know if this is a new song or an old song or what but it's not bad and it's loud.

5. Quiet Kid by Dead Confederite

Not too big of a fan of this band but tune is grungy modern

6. The Sun Ain't Gonna' Shine Anymore by The Walker Brothers

How deep is your wall of sound? This is a great heartbreak song as it's sweeping and maudlin. The sixties had some amazing music that wasn't by The Beatles.

7. Hot Child In The City by Nick Gilder

Statutory rape? Nah! I don't know, maybe she just looks young, she said she was eighteen. The seventies were a groovy place where you could get away with more creepiness.

8. Tighten Up by The Black Keys

I suppose this is a good example of rock in 2010. I mean it's more white R&B than anything else but 2010 didn't rock so loud, did it?

9. I Don't Believe You by The Thermals
Indie Rock . . . sometimes you are a great thing and sometimes you are just like everybody else. These dudes are from Portland OR.
10.East Bound and Down by Jerry Reed

Theme from Smokey and the Bandit. It's a stupidly awesome song

11.It's Getting Boring By the Sea by Blood Red Shoes

Can you tell that I loved the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack? Here's more music that I totally dug!

12.What Is Life by George Harrison
A Phil Specter masterpiece! This is just a great sounding song from Mr. Harrison's All Things Must Pass album. Love it!

Remember what I said about I Don't Believe You? Well the same applies for these guys.

Well produced Indie Rock is still Indie Rock, especially when it's from New York.

Knowing anything about Bryan Wilson is depressing and sad which is why this song isn't a nice as it should be.

Working dudes everywhere partied to this song while I was still in high school thinking it was all stupid. Kind of still do. I'll say it again My Chemical Romance are current incarnation of Poison.

23. I'll Be You by The Replacement

Critical darlings from Minneapolis! This was what Indie bands in the eighties turned into once signed. This was from the album Don't tell A Soul and supposed to be their big cross over album so they could be bigger than R.E.M.

24.Tell Me Why by M.I.A.
She has more than Paper Planes though nothing is quite that good.

Weekly Mix #70

So . . . This is a nice little mix that goes to various places and genres and decades which is good, right?


1. Kick by INXS
As time goes by INXS just seems to get better and that's really weird. I mean I thought they were a very good band when I was 15 but by the time I was 25 I thought they were lame.
2. Mow by Miss Crazy
Some bands are founded on being Mötley Crüe and in this case it's alright, mama!
3. 99 Problems by Jay-Z
Just let the man rap; it that good even though this is really It Was a Good Day with anger.
4. Round and Round by Ratt
More people love this song than I can agree with. people say it's more than an 80s metal tune but I disagree.
5. Broken Glass by Buckcherry
Rocking out like this doesn't really happen too much in these days.
6. Resistance by Muse
Huge album for this band; it's really all bloated from this point forward . . . that and child support
7. Hollywood by Codeine Velvet Club
Jon Lawler from Fratelis is in this 60s tribute band. Very inspired show music!
8. One Thousand Tears of a Tarantula by Dengue Fever
I thought Dengue Fever was a play on Saturday Night Fever but it's a real and bad thing. These guys are also a heavily 60s inspired group but more psychedelic.
9. Sunshine Superman by Donavan
This is the real deal for 1960s music. If I'm correct Donavan isn't allowed in the US still.
10.My Generation by The Who
More real rock from the 60s! I hated this band and song for years but I came around.
11.(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party) by Hotrats
Covers should all be as innovative as this

This si one of those songs that I can listen to about a million time in a row; it connects on a deep level. I'm shocked I don't hear it in lonesome bars more

Johnette Napolitano from Concrete Blonde lends her pipes to this duet with Paul Westerburg; it crude but cool.

A band I know nothing about.

Their tribute to their late, first guitarist Hilel Slovak. For some reason this song gets harder and harder for me to listen too as years go by. Something about it is a tough pill.

Weekly mix #66

This is a 2009 mix with several songs that I never listen to but wanted to represent represent on a modern mix. Sometimes I think that I have to put more emphases on modern, current tunes than better ones in  fear that I may become an old fart. Maybe I just need to dig more deeply into the unknown . . .

Still making jams after all this time, adjusting to the times well enough.

Some songs drone and drone well, this is one of them

This song just gets funnier as the years pass
 5. Porno Star by Buckcherry
Josh and the boys are not subtle by any means. They are a band who needs a scene.
6. My Way by Miss Crazy
A band that wanted the 80s back in all their glam metalness. Sorry guys, you missed the boat.
7. Primary Colours by The Horrors
It's a sweeping  song from band that used to be anything but. It reminds me of 80s music I never heard.
8. Petition The Lord With Prayor by The Doors
You Cannot petition the lord with prayer!
9. United States of Eurasia/Collateral Damage by Muse
Showing their love for Queen and Radiohead full on!
10.Beach Town by Le Loup
It's kind of etherial and kind of hypnotic but mostly it's not much of anything you'd have an urge to hear
11.Fine For Now by Grizzly Bear
Only slightly more friendly than the last song, this tune has some nice harmonies but mainly makes you turn into a drip.
12.Every Rose Has It's Thorn by Poison
There's something about a huge hit ballad that can make unknown indie rock seem totally lame
13.Art isn't Real (City Of Sin) by Deer Tick
Sometimes one discovers a little indie song that is remarkably good and you wonder why nobody else knows about it. I found this song on a Penguin music sampler.
14.Everymorning by Sugar Ray
I liked them better when they just wanted to fly.
15.T.N.T by AC/DC

Yup, snap out of it we're blowing shit up with the greatest thing ever to come out of Australia.

16.Cryin' by Aerosmith
I'm getting soft because after years of denying any like for this song I finally caved.
17.Standing Next To Me by The Last Shadow Puppets
More sixties inspired rock. I feel like I should be riding in a black cab through London , heartbroken, wondering where it all went wrong.
18.Coffin Faftory by The Mumblers
Some boys from Silicon Valley got out there organ and made some music, there should have been a movement around this but that's just me being' wishful.
19.Time Has Come Today by The Chambers Brothers
Are these guys one hit wonders? I think so. It's a good 60s song about change and all that 60s garbage.
20.Use Somebody by Kings of Lyon
This should be the end of the mix but I decided I didn't want to be a total wuss
21. You Could Be Mine by Damone
Worship the power of GN'R even if it through a cover song by a very underrated band.

 Many new bands on this little guy right here, well new for 2005. This was the first mix made in 2006 and it seems I was looking out for new bands and sticking with the  gold!

One of the top five breakup songs of all time

Quality pop rock
6. American Gigolo by Weezer
This is kinda' a rocker that turns into typical Weezer. They also throw a little Welcome To The Jungle in it.
7. It's So Easy by Guns N' Roses
So much fire power and attitude. So angry, so horny, so young
8.Growing Up With GNR by Aqueduct
A friend sent this song to me a s a gift; it's cool
9. Prepare for the Fight by The Lovemakers
Bay Area band with keay boards and boy and girl singers, very 80s
10.Send ME an Angel '89 by Real Life
Speaking of keyboards this one haunts us with them
11.Dirty Harry by Gorillaz
This is the chill out song of the mix

The Arctic Monkeys were supposed to be the next big thing and dubbed the best teenage band in the world
