Top 5: Crazy Chick Songs

Everybody knows a crazy chick and many people have unfortunately had to see the crazy up close, here are a few of their best anthems.

Here's my Top 5 Crazy Chick Songs

Leslie Gore: It’s My Party
Granted she has every right to be upset and every right to cry her boyfriend is a douche bag but let’s be realistic about this; she should have just sent everybody home. She makes everything sound cute but if you’ve ever been to a party where there’s a crying girl you know it’s no treat and if it is her house it’s even worse for there. Even though there is no consolation everybody better try or run far away.
“It's my party and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you”

Fiona Apple: Criminal
Yes, I could pick any song from her repertoire but I’m taking this one because it’s pretty over the top.
“I’ve got to make a play
To make my lover stay
So, what would an angel say?
cause the devil wants to know”
Good job proving teenage girls deserve to be kept in the fires of hell until they’re about 24.

Garbage: Vow
Ladies and gentleman: Shirley Manson. She may seem like the cool chick at the party maybe even one of the boys but it’s apart of her greater wackiness
“I came to cut you up
I came to knock you down
I came around to tear your little world apart
I cam to shut you up
I came to drag you down
I came around to tear your little world apart
And break your soul apart"

You burn and burn to get under my skin
You’ve gone too far now I wont give in
You crucified me but I’m back in your bed
Like Jesus Christ coming from the dead”

Hole: Doll Parts
Yes, here’s an obvious choice but then again some crazy is loud and proud. Even if Ms. Love’s late husband wrote the song it still doesn’t change the fact that Courtney is loco!
“I love him so much it just turns to hate
I fake it so real, I am beyond fake
And someday, you will ache like I ache
Someday, you will ache like I ache”

Kate Bush: Running Up That Hill
Some how I never really understood these lyrics until the past year and at that moment I shuddered. Maybe I’m naïve but I don’t think this thought process is healthy.
“You don’t want to hurt me,
But see how deep the bullet lies.
Unaware I’m tearing you asunder.
Ooh, there is thunder in our hearts.

Is there so much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter, don’t we?
You, it’s you and me.
Its you and me won’t be unhappy.”

Honorable Mention goes to Peaches for F@#* The Pain Away but the lyrics really aren’t that crazy, just random.

Top 5: Led Zeppelin's Reach

Top fives have been around since there have been countdowns and lists but were made totally valid in the book and later the film, "High Fidelity". Now us geeks can rally around it with a sureness to our categorization style. If you haven't seen the movie you really should, if you read, go read the book; it's a gem!

Top 5 Led Zeppelin songs not by Led Zeppelin

Lenny Kravitz: Rock n' Roll is Dead
"Heartbreaker" is a great song and should be left alone but Lenny is a rock star and can pull off almost anything (including your pants).

Kingdom Come: Get It On
They did have Jason Bonham son of John Bonham drumming for them but it's still not an excuse as much as it is an awesome way to sell your band!

White Snake: Still Of The Night
David Coverdale and company get very sexy and very metal on this 6 minute plus ballad to having sex. It is a great song that makes air guitarists very happy.

Jane's Addiction: Mountain Song
Argue all you want and then go listen to the song again, the elements are there including British 70's style drumming and the bass that keeps you locked in.

Coheed and Cambria: Welcome Home
This is the magnum opus of Coheed and Cambria and I have to believe they know it. The song as it all cryptic lyrics, powerful guitar, thundering drums and vocals not to be messed with. Not only is this song Kashmir on steroids but the video has the guy playing the double neck guitar and the band uses this as there symbol:

Inductees tease

September 23 2009
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Announces Nominees for 2010 Induction

The nominations for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum were announced today. The twelve nominees are: ABBA, Darlene Love, Donna Summer, Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, KISS, Laura Nyro, LL Cool J, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Chantels, The Hollies and The Stooges. Ballots will be sent to more than 500 voters, who will select artists to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the 25th Annual Induction Ceremony on March 15, 2010 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.

Five of the twelve nominees will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. To be eligible for nomination into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an act must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. This year’s nominees had to release their first single no later than 1984.

The inductees will be announced in January 2010, and all inductees are ultimately represented in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio.

My Thoughts . . .
ABBA
This is not Rock, this is Scandinavian disco pop
My Vote: NO

Darlene Love
She's had a long career of stuff I'm not too sure makes her a Hall of Famer
My Vote: NO

Donna Summer
even "Hot Stuff" her best song isn't really rock is it? I like some of her work quite a bit but She is really a disco diva
My Vote: NO

Genesis: They have committed too many 80s crimes and even though their body of work is expansive I can only think of one or two that don't make me turn off the radio
My Vote: NO

Jimmy Cliff: He's the Man and should have been inducted a while back but then again tings can't be easy for a reggae man.

My Vote: YES

KISS: This band deserves their own museum, just ask them. With so many big Rock songs and capturing the awesome cartoonishness and power that is Rock how are they not inducted already?

My Vote: YES

Laura Nyro: I can't vote for somebody I never heard of
My Vote: NO

LL Cool J: Ladies Love him and so do I. He's another case of cartoonish behavior.

My Vote: Yes

Red Hot Chili Peppers: A good band gone bland but they do have staying power.

My Vote: Yes

The Chantels: I'm sure they meant the world to somebody but not to me
My Vote: NO

The Hollies: "Bus Stop"was a great song and they are the original Manchester band but I just don't know about their HOF worthiness.
My Vote: NO

The Stooges: This is rock n' roll, this is the beginnings of punk; this is Iggy Pop at his most self destructive, this is "Search and destroy"!

MY Vote: Yes

I still don't know why rock n' roll wants to be reputable. A museum is cool but a Hall of Fame just seems pointless; why do I let them get me to participate? I am a sucker! Museums:good
Voting: Bad

Peace Signs

Hey Peace Sign!
What does it all mean and why do I care?
Winston Churchill had some influence which led to all sorts of stupidity.

Tricky Dick tried to reach the youth right? Or was he trying to be twice the Churchill? I don't know but he was a paranoid schmuck.

The former Beatle and solo artist John Lennon made it his and seemd sort of earnest about it but most likely he was mocking himslef or his fans

These birds began using it as if it was there own invention but I don't really know what it has to do with the Spice Girls besides their desire to flash the "V" up there in photo ops

The Asian girls have made it their own and have made it mandatory along with a smile for all picture taken. It's stupid and weird but it seems to be a requirement now.

Alas it has come to this, the anti Christ now throws out the peace sign; is she emulating anybody?

Wouldn't it be awesome if she poked herself in the eyes with those talons!

All things circular

If six were nine
I don't mind
But it seems more like eight is 00s
So that's how it goes

As a teenager in the late 80s and early 90s the 1960s were the rad thing that retro and cool . . . man. Girls dressed is semi hippie garb as did some boys and everybody listened to the music. It may have been a reaction to the 80's superficial and materialistic or that's what the people who market such fantasies of their own youth would have us believe. They would have us believe that the question "Are You Experienced?" was still a relevant one but let's face it a 16 year old in 1989 was quite a bit more "experienced" than a 16 year old from 1969 we even got to study that era in class. I can only imagine the wistfulness of any teacher having to dig up their own youth or younger days and try to explain it without going into some nostalgic breakdown. I suppose there's some chode of professor who gets misty eyed over the 80s but that's because they feel sorry for themselves . . . or maybe I'm wrong.
Let's face it, the decade of decadence where we our senile, B-movie star president forfeit the countries future and converted us into a debtor nation, awesome! The reality is the 60s were more commercial than we talk about and the 80s were more conservative than we like to admit. (the 90s was the decade we sold out, we had no choice)

Here we are though in the year 2009 and eighties styles are in and keyboards have made a bit of comeback on the music scene. Naturally I think it's weird to see all this stuff on the kids who I guess were born at the tail end or just after the 1980s but really It's just the way of things.
I wonder how it will all look a hundred years from now, will the decades all blend into one, the subtleties lost?

The there's the myth of the eighties floating out there and not the Wall Street version but some hip and awesome version that only existed in an amalgam of high points.
So what the heck does it mean that we're looking back to the decade that began looking back? Actually that may have started in the 70s with "Happy Days"
Anyway, onward and upward!

This is Life

Escaped insane killer! Man the 70s are back even this guy's hair is 70s

full Story from CNN.com
A legally insane killer was on the loose in the state of Washington on Saturday, two days after he escaped during a field trip to a county fair, authorities said.

Phillip Paul was able to elude a massive manhunt in Spokane County, Washington, after escaping on Thursday, a spokesman for the sheriff's department said.

Though Paul had been confined in a mental institution because of a murder confession, he was allowed to be part of a trip to a county fair Thursday.

Paul, 47, escaped from the fair around noon, which launched the massive manhunt and brought criticism from many, including state government officials. Sheriff's officials told CNN affiliate KREM-TV that Paul also escaped briefly in 1991 and assaulted a law enforcement officer.

A review has been launched on the incident along with the policy that allows patients to take trips, said Susan Dreyfus, secretary of the state's Department of Social and Health Services.

Dreyfus said she was concerned about Paul's escape and another recent brief escape by a patient at a different local mental facility.

"These incidents, separate and coincidental, have raised serious questions about the security readiness of our two state psychiatric hospitals," Dreyfus said.

Paul was committed to Eastern State Hospital after admitting he strangled and slit the throat of community activist Ruth Motley in 1987, KREM-TV reported. According to court documents obtained by KREM, Paul believed Motley was a witch and killed her in response to voices in his head.

He subsequently burned a deer carcass as a sacrifice, according the documents.

The extent of Paul's illness was disturbing even to mental health professionals, KREM reported.

"He's the only paranoid schizophrenic -- I've seen hundreds, maybe thousands of them -- that frightened me," Dr. Frank Hardy, a licensed psychiatrist, says in one of the documents, according to KREM. "The first time I took one look at him -- and I've never done this before or since -- I asked the jailer to remain in the room while I examined him.

"I believe he would respond to his delusions and his voices again" if released, Hardy wrote.

But Paul "Coyote" Neumann, a disc jockey at Spokane radio station Kix 96-FM, has an entirely different view of the escapee. Neumann has known Paul for 12 years through volunteering at the hospital and correspondence by mail.

Paul is a talented artist, Neumann told KREM-TV.

"I was just amazed by his ability. I always took him as a savant," Neumann said. "I never knew that he had murdered somebody until three or four or five years later."

Neumann described Paul as a "gentle soul."

"I've never seen him raise his voice; I've never seen him get frustrated; I've never seen nothing but kindness from him," he told KREM.

"I get mixed emotions because I do see the sweet, softer side of this individual, but I've never seen him unsupervised, I've never seen him not medicated," Neumann said. "But that's not to say in another 12, 15, 20 hours without those medications that he doesn't revert to those demons."

It amazes me that this psycho escaped at a county fair, how crazy is that; it's straight up Hollywood schlock! He also escaped once before back in the 90s, he's a got a friend who says he's a gentle soul yet others are terrified of him, animal sacrifice; it wild stuff.
Write the script, cast it ASAP!

Indie rock goes show tunes
77. Galvanize by Chemical Brothers
Q-Tip lends some vocals to this anthem

This band was supposed to be so huge and it didn't really happen but still he rhymes "it's cold tonight" with "you're dynamite" and that's solid lyricism

Baseball Stuff

I guess I'm a pitching fan more than a hitting fan; it could be because I'm pretty sure all the hitters are juiced accept Ichiro (9 200 hit seasons in a row . . . Amazing!)
So with that said my current favorite pitcher still active is Tim Lincecum
So he doesn't win too much but that's because nobody does anymore, Pitchers usually aren't around in the 8th inning anymore so it appears that win totals for starters have gone down some. I recall when I was growing up that there used to be about 3 or 4 guys a year who had 20 victories and one of those guys would have 24 or 25 wins and that was a lot but I guess not in comparison to the guys who were winning 30 or more games way back in the day.
Anyway "The Freak" as they call Mr. Lincecum has a great wind up, he strikes everybody out, he's thin and he has goofy hair and tattoos which combined with the fact that some say he looks like the lead singer of 70s, 80s new wave/rock band The Cars,Rick Ocasek (below)makes him pretty damn cool in my book . . . err blog. In some ways he's like a slightly taller and much paler version of Pedro Martinez. I hope the guy can last in the bigs and continue to pitch like he has the past two years and because I'm old fashioned I think it would be great if always pitched for the San Francisco Giants
I have to wonder if Tim's mom was a Cars fan . . .

Dead Stars: Swayze Edition

Mr. Dirty Dancing, Mr. Ghost, Mr. Roadhouse has left the building, the final curtain has been lowered, the credits have rolled.
Your films have touched a lot of folks and so have the jokes that have been made at your cost.
I'll tell you this, he made me laugh, yup. if you ever saw his Saturday Night Live appearance from 1990 where he appeared in all his blond mullet, ripped shirtlessness Adonis as an aspiring Chippendale's dancer going against Chris Farley (RIP)and as a white Trash son opposite Phil Hartman (RIP). My favorite film of his was The Outsiders if that means anything
There is no doubt he had great hair and looked good in tight clothes.

RIP Jim Carroll

The song, "People Who Died" was a good one, thank you.

I don't know much about the man besides that they made a movie about a part of his life based on a book of his, "The Basketball Diaries" and that's somethin!

Muscle Time

This could be a sign of the apocalypse or it could just be the cheese ball in me showing it's full capacity.

I'm not sure where this obsession came from; it sort of crept out of nowhere.

It's disheartening however that I haven't had this urge for one of these beasts my whole life like a primal animal just waiting to tear out and speed off with the pungent aroma of burnt rubber left behind

Somewhere however I got a notion that these cars were so, so, so cool.

Don't worry though I'm not going to buy an IROC or a fire bird Trans Am; I'm just an observer.

My First Mix CD

So I gave up my first Mix Tape to you and it was embarrassing but that won't stop me from sharing my first Mix Cd with you. I think it's a lot better than the tape but the reasons . . . I guess it's the whole older and wiser thing. What really matters is that I love to make a mix of songs after all these years, yeah? This mix Cd was created in 1998 a year that was well after anything intersting happened in music and before ... Eminem?, The Strokes?, Kid Rock? It's all the same to me in that era of stuff that didn't move me too much.

Play List:
1 Good Times Roll, The Cars
2 Special, Garbage
3 This is a Call. Foo Fighters
4 Big Bang Baby, Stone Temple Pilots
5 Fake Plastic Trees, Radiohead
6 Morning Glory, Oasis
7 I Am The Walrus, The Beatles
8 Beatles And The Stones, The House Of Love
9 Miss You The Rolling Stones
10 The Spy. The Doors
11 The Phoenix, The Cult
12 Big Balls, AC/DC
13 Planet Of Sound, The Pixies
14 Hate Your Friends, The Lemonheads
15 Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Elton John
16 The Man Who Sold The World, Nirvana
17 Death Defies Me, The 360's
18 Do The Evolution, Pearl Jam
19 The Ocean, Led Zeppelin

In actuality this mix is some of the better moments of the many tapes I put together such as "The Spy"'s segue into "The Phoenix" or "Fake Plastic Trees" into "Morning Glory". I guess "The Ocean" remains as the song that remains the same on both tape and CD.

My First Mix Tape

I recalled today as I walked around and listened to my little iPod shuffle the point in my life I would like every other kid make mix tapes. some were iffy while others are classics of the genre. yes, classics because friends used to ask me to make them mixes after hearing mine . . . I should have been a DJ, right?
Anyway, after much digging I found my first mix tape that I created on August 1st 1987 just a month before I started High School and less than 6 months before I discovered Gins n' Roses

Here is the track list:
SIDE A
1 What you Need, INXS
2 Message In a Bottle, The Police
3 If This Is It, Huey Lewis and The News
4 Walk of Life, Dire Straits
5 Best of Both Worlds, Van Halen
6 Sledgehammer, Peter Gabriel
7 Can't Stop Rockin', ZZ Top
8 The Ocean, Led Zeppelin
9 Take My Breath Away, Berlin
10 To Be A Lover, Billy Idol
11 Keeping The Faith, Billy Joel

SIDE B
1 Last Child, Aerosmith
2 Twistin' The Night Away, Sam Cooke
3 Some Like It Hot, Power Station
4 New Religion, Duran Duran
5 Mighty Wings, Cheap Trick
6 In Your Eyes, Peter Gabriel
7 Rock and Roll, Led Zeppelin
8 If I Could Only Flag her Down, ZZ Top
9 Every Breath You Take, The Police
10 Sweet Sixteen, Billy Idol
11 Get Up, van Halen

So I'll let you be the judge on whether or not this mix was any good. There are a couple songs here that I still listen to but most of them are pieces that I'd leave off of any list at this point in my music listening life. I think I still have about 20 or so of these tapes in a nice carrying case from years ago; where was I bringing these tapes?
Enjoy!
