Mix # 89

Well this is the first mix to be published in 2012! There are no 2012 songs on the list but that's okay because there are no less than three covers on this one!

1. Immigrant Song by Karen O and trent Reznor
What this song says is that no mortal man can sing like Robert Plant and a woman must be brought in to sing the Led Zeppelin cover, also it was the reason why the trailer for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was so good. This song makes me want to rape and pillage but not really.
2. Who's Gonna' Ride Your Wild Horses by Garbage
This is a great song but I never liked the arrangement U2 used, I preferred some of the stripped down remixes. Garbage takes this song and goes trippy with it.
3. I Think The World Of You by Two Wounded Birds
This song is a Radiohead rip but it's good and lets me pu the next song on here without guilt.

4. Fake Plastic Trees by Radiohead
There was a time when they still made music that normal people liked to listen to, not the crap they do now which is little more than  weird impulse and beats.
5. Morning Glory by Oasis
If you know this album at all, you know that song is a alarming when it hits. Nothing else on the album is like this and that makes it really f'ing cool. I love the helicopter!
6. I Am The Walrus by The Beatles
Without the Beatles there is no Oasis or countless other English, Brit pop bands
7. Nightcall by Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx
This gem is from the, Drive  soundtrack and is a beautiful synth song! It sounds like the dark side of the early 80s.
8. Villains of The Moon by Cold Cave
More 80's synth inspired music, it's cool.

You knew they would look likes this!
9. Your Silent Face by New Order
The real deal.
10.Something To Die For by The Sounds
They're too good to be this unknown but that's life. They also sound influenced by 80s synth bands.
11.Suffragette City by The Horrors
After their last album I thought the Horrors were done and would float away on their stupid soundscapes but this cover of Bowie is awesome! Good job!
12.World Up My Ass by The Circle Jerks
Can an 80s LA hardcore punk band be seminal? Well these guys were. They were a reason that scene was what it was. You can see them in The Decline of Western Civilization being loud and fast if you're curious, probably on YouTube as well.

13.Civliization's Dying by The Hives
They kept it real with a punk cover. Can the Hives really be punk though? Can Sweden be punk? Black Metal, yes but punk?
14.Casino El Camino (parte 1) by Guadeloupe Plata
Fun lovin' Spanish dudes playing roots rock!
15. Ghost Towns by Radical Face
Somber Rock that reminds me of The Shins and The Decemberists
16.So Lonely by The Police
They used to be a tough English band that played Ska but then they matured and got quite different. Before they grew up, before the money, before the world tours.
17.Simmer Down by Bob Marley
Before he got Reggae down perfect he was playing ska and it was cool
18.Our Day Will Come by Amy Winehouse
Unfortunately it did not and it makes this song much more sad than it was ever intended to be. It's a little difficult to ignore her passing when listening.
19.Try a Little Tenderness by Otis Redding
The man! The Soul! The good advise.
20.Grey Cell Green by Ned's Atomic Dustbin
This band was huge in the UK but never caught on too big in the States, maybe you saw them on 120 Minutes one Sunday night. They had a big sound and big hair. They were the next thing after Manchester.

Weekly Mix #68

This is one of the worst mixes I've ever put together. Sorry for the let down but hopefully you can get a little joy out of some of it. There are quite a few covers on here so that makes it sort of fun. Next weeks is totally better.

1. I Wanna Rock by Twisted Sister
I guess I really just enjoy kicking off mixes with 80's rock. This song got some notoriety when closed minded Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker. Twisted Sister made him stop using it as his walk on music.
2. So So Special by The Bardo
You don't know this band and don't pretend you do. They seem like good ol' boys playing good ol' rock and who knows, maybe they are.
3. K.I.A. by JET
Killed In Action, JET continues to suck and blow all at once but it's sometimes the only rock out there.
4. Down by 311
Chill! Rap and rock together at last! Well not really, they just expanded on the genre. Is this their biggest hit?
5. Meds by Placebo
Take your prescription drugs, be better, that's what this song is about.
6. This Is Why I'm Hot by Mims
Some songs make you feel cool/hot this is one of them. It makes me want a yacht and and all that goes with it.
7. I Told You I Was Freaky by Flight Of The Concords
Joke music is sometimes better than the real thing.
8. The One by Slaughterhouse
Hey! More rap rock that sucks! It was a free download.
9. Ain't No Rest For The Wicked by Cage The Elephant
This song is kinda' groovy but then it sucks all at the same time.
10.Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen
This is the original, not the Jeff Buckley version or one of those stupid American idol attempts, this is the old man getting weird.
11.Don't Worry Baby by The Beach Boys
Romantic and backed with a huge Brian Wilson sound; this song is emotional and tender
12.Bad Romance by Lady GaGa
She can't really sing, she can't really dance  and she looks are Medusa like but she's a star. Every song she does is taken from someplace else almost shamelessly; this one to me starts off sounding like Eurasure.
13.Hang Up the Pinup by Cobra Killer
Here is your buzz saw indie rock for the week; it's the sort of song that evil elves would listen to.
14.Heartbreaker by Nirvana
Kurt replies, "I don't know it" to a fan who yells for the band to play the Zeppelin classic and then figures it out as if the hammer of the gods came down and smashed it into him. His vocals are proof to some sort of anguish at least.
15.Nice Boys by Rose Tattoo
Australian rockers showing up and getting down. Not everything down under is AC/DC and INXS
16.You're Crazy by Guns N' Roses
G n' R covered Rose Tattoo's  Nice Boys and they even covered this song on their EP.
17.California Queen by Wolfmother
My interest in Wolfmother ended with their second album and it probably should have ended before that. More Aussie rock!
18.Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows by Lesley Gore
Leslie Gore is crazy as I've stated before, how can she sing this song, It's My Party and Now It's Judy's Turn To Cry? Wacky!
19.Hungry End by Dan Sartain
He's had much better songs and this one just seems like he's in a funk
20.Laura by Girls
It's a little ditty that makes one want to skip along the sidewalk
21.Long Tall Sally by The Backbeat Band
Remember this movie, Backbeat, starring Stephen Dorf as the fifth Beatle? The band they used to do the music had a line up that included Dave Pirner , Thurston Moore, Mike Mills, Dave Grohl and a couple other dudes; it's very aggressive pop.
22.Red Right Hand by Arctic Monkeys
Cover Nick Cave takes balls, I like the original best butu this version has a bit more speed.
23.Murder By Number by The Police
When this came out it wasn't on the record and only on the cassette. Sting and the boys show their humorous side by explaining you can kill people and rhyme.

Weekly Mix Tape Pt 36

In earlyish 2005 it came from someplace somewhere. It's not cutting edge but it has some good music. Listen and enjoy.

1. Synchronicity by Police
The Opening track is the opening track from one of the all time great albums, Synchronicty
2. You Know Who You Are? by Nine Inch Nails
It was exciting that this came out but at the same time it was the end of the road
3. The Kids Are Alright by The Who
Not a bad song but that's okay
4. The Hardest Button To Button by The White Stripes
Thump, thump, thump, that's the song along with some funny lyrics
5. E-Pro by Beck
Little groovy song

This a weird song that I've always liked

Embracing a dance movement before their; this song gets some Disco down
8. Sprosten Green by The Charlatans
this is the more upbeat U.S. mix, shorter, better
9. New Moon On Monday by Duran Duran
 What is this song about?

The band that wanted to be Duran Duran . . . but Simon LeBon never went solo

This song always made me curious
12.She Watch Channel Zero?! by Public Enemy
One of the genre changing greats

The 80s were all about whipping it
14.Hip Hop Star by Beyoncé
Big Big Boi and Sleep Brown help out the diva on this one
15.Daddy Rolling Stone by The Forty-Fives
Good song, lame band
16.Pretty Noose by Soundgarden
Post grunge Soundgarden was a little flacid but this one was decent
17.Tell Me Something Good by Rufus
Funkytime fun
18.Float On by Modest Mouse
One Hit Wonder?
19.Night Moves by Bob Seger
A song about being young and trying get some action

Bring back the glamorous Rock after it had seemed to disappear for a while

Weekly Mix Tape Pt 32

I believe I had just been introduced to iTunes as I created this mix but I had not yet went crazy on it. This is a weak one with exception to a few songs like Oasis' "Whatever" and Muse' "Stockholm Syndrome"

enjoy

1. Why Do You Love me? by Garbage
Goodbye Garbage, this is the last thing worth while the band did, maybe if Shirly just hated herself a little more . . .
2. Never Enough by The Cure
One of my favorite Cure songs, is this on a non greatest hits album?
3. Toxic by Britney Spears
Hello Britney and goodbye. This song came out when a lot of music sudenly had middle eastern strings thrown in the mix
4. Milkshake by Kelis
How is this song supposed to make me feel?
5. White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane

Haight/Ashbury at it's apex! Also a side note this song was in the movie Platoon
6. Stockholm Syndrome by Muse
A great song that was never on the radio; I discovered it on a juke box in a bar
7. Next To You by The Police
They have nothing like this energy anymore
8. Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand

Are they Scottish? Are they gay? These are the things I here about them.
9. The Metro by Berlin
Somber 80s pop with synthesizers all over it. It doesn't make me love riding the subway but it does romanticize it.
10.Sexy Boy by Air

Trippy 90s synthesizer pop
11.I, Zombie by White Zombie
You can not deny The White Zombie! It doesn't bet much more badass than this!
12.Breakin' by The Music
Meh
13.Goody Two Shoes by Adam Ant
This is one of the first videos I'd ever seen; it was so cool to me when I was 9 years old. I think Axl Rose still his outfit for one of those piano videos
14.Triple Trouble by The Beastie Boys

Man, this group sucked at this point
15.Birdbrain by Buffalo Tom
Boston Rocks!!! But alas Buffalo Tom is no more . . . tough they got kinda' lame towards the end
16.Church Of The Poison Mind by Culture Club
Is this my favorite Culture Club song? I think so, very Motown
17.Whatever by Oasis

One of the best non album songs ever released
18.Louis XVI by Louis XIV
Not one of their best songs but it's passable as background noise
19.Crazy Beat by Blur
Blur's last studio album before Damon Albarn
20.Honky Tonk Women by The Rolling Stones
This song is all about the cowbell
21.Rebellion (Lies) by Arcade Fire
Let's welcome Arcade Fire to the mixes! They big sweeping songs, don't they? It seems this band is also quite polarizing which is weird to me
