Weekly Mix 86

Another week, another mix. I try to mix it up but it's typically always rock and indie rock at that, how did this happen? the Wavves are here, Billy Joel is here, The Bangles are back from the dead! There's new music from Rose Hill Drive a band from Boulder Colorado which means they're a college band.
Enjoy!

1. I'm Bad by LL Cool J
How stupid and how awesome was this jam back in 87'. He's the pinnacle he rained supreme, he crushed you like a jelly bean!

2. Days Forgotten by Kasabian
The band that should be better than they wind up sounding
3. Gren-Eyed Lady by Sugar loaf
So funky is the guitar that I just want to have the riff repeat forever.
4. Dig a Little Deeper by Peter Bjorn and John
More sweet ass pop from Sweden! Their album, Gimme' Some, really is the best.
5. Open My Eyes by The Bangles
Yes, the bangles are back and this song is a good come back as it's may start of sounding like the Who's Can't Explain it ends sounding like their own, In Your Room. Actually this one has been produced to sound like current indie rock. Susannah Hoffs' vocals however are probably better than most current indie groups. I don't see the Go-Go's doing this stuff.

6. Carazy For You by Best Coast
This version is from the iTunes Sessions. It's also a good example of what the current state of cool music is.
7. State Of Love And trust by Pearl jam
From the Singles soundtrack I wasn't too crazy about this song until recently but now I can listen to it happily.
8. N**as in Paris by Kanye West and Jay-Z
It's cool. It almost sounds like, Forgot About The Dre.
9. Little Stars by She Wants revenge
They are doing the 80s as good as anybody these days. The Sounds also do a good job.
10.Nasty Secretary by The Hives
The only band that matters! This is from their 3 song release of covers that came out in 2010 called Tarred and Feathered.
11.Lie Down In The Darkness by Moby
Moby has made some beautiful soundscapes and this is one of them. His high vocals however freak me out in that castrodi type of way.

12.You Know What I Mean by Cults
Almost a do-wop but definitely an old sounding tune.
13.Bad, Bad Leroy brown by Jim Croce
Clap your hands and a sing along, this one from 1973 is a feel good tune despite it being about the baddest guy around.
14.Überlin by R.E.M.
Sounding like Drive this is off the bands final album unless they reunite for some halfhearted garbage down the line. thanks for all the music guys.
15.The Boat Song by The Black Angels
I may be the only dork who loves this band. This is from an E.P. released in 2011
16.Bug by Wavves
They are a San Diego rock band that sounds cool but I don't know if I'll ever hear anything else from them. They are living the power pop dream.

17.Paparazzi by Greyson Chance
This is that little kid who covered Lady Gaga's song in front of his classmates with just a piano. That live performance was quite good probably because he was nervous and had some passion but this studio cut has been auto tuned and is a bit too clean sounding. Maybe he did it at home, I don't know.
18.New York State of Mind by Billy Joel
Before the 80s he was a really cool cat . . . maybe he still is, I don't know.
19.Psychoanalyst by Rose Hill Drive
Modern rock and getting loud! There are many bands that sound like this now but that's always the case. They're kind of psychedelic and kind of 70s sounding, little bluesy and totally from Boulder.

20. White Punks on Dope by The Tubes
San Francisco's own WPOD! They were better known for their song, She's a Beauty but this one is just so much more fun. I love a song about failing so enormously that one has to celebrate the act!

Weekly Mix Tape Pt 19

Weekly Mix time again! This one's got a lot of Diva power behind it so you may feel it's a breath of fresh air or you may want to puke. It's all music so just get over yourself and enjoy the sounds. It's all pretty much mainstream music except that Cornershop version of Norwegian wood.

1. I stole Your Love by Kiss
I'm not sure if this song is about rape or not
2. Midnite Snack by The Donnas
A great Song with production that gives me a headache
3. South Side by Moby w/ Gwen Stefani
I'm not fond of this song anymore. 1 Diva
4. Exit by U2
Smetimes I like this U2 Song more than all the others
5. Hide U by Kosheen
Not as Good as Empty Skies but it will do
6. Survivor by Destiny's Child
This song was a big deal when it was released. 3 Divas
7. My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It) by En Vogue
Great James Brown groove a classic on the dance floor. 4 funky Divas
8. Backwards Dog by The Soup Dragons
"I'm Free" was the hit but this one had bigger guitars
9. Flavor OF The Weak by American Hi-Fi
This is the drummer from Letters to Cleo and Veruca Salt Band
10.Yellow by Cold Play
Before they ruled the world
11.Dancing With Myself by Billy Idol
I loved this video back in the day, maybe it even changed my life
12.Play by Jennifer Lopez
Her version of "Music". 1 Diva
13.Lady Marmalade by Moulin Rouge
I can't listen to this song anymore. 5 Divas
14.Spoonman by Soundgarden
Soundgarden goes mainstream
15.Stone Cold Crazy by Queen
This one rocks and is manic. 1 Diva
16.Toys In The Attic by Aerosmith
From the bands best 1970s album
17.Sabotage by The Beastie Boys
Biggest song of their career next to "Fight For Your Right To Party"
18.Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode
I used to thing he was singing, "Reach out and touch ME"
19.Bigmouth Strikes Again by The Smiths
Who hasn't wanted to bludgeon their loved one. 1 Diva
20. Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) by Cornershop
No clue what language this is. Cornershop: Critcs Darling
21.One Love/People Get Ready by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Just a good mellow way to end the mix . . . . dig

That's 16 Divas! Never again!

Weekly Mix Tape Pt 6

Obviously not all mixes are created equal and this is one of the lesser ones. I would like to harvest about 60% of the songs on here and create a new mix. I guess I made this one in 1999. I hope you enjoy making attempts to listen to it.

1. Should I Stay or Should I Go by The Clash
Amongst other things they really knew how to rock and be tough sounding even

 2. Memphis Hip Shake by The Cult
The Cult tried to be  an American band in 1987 and be more ballsy with their rock. Rick Rubin helped them jam.
3. Velvet Roof By Buffalo Tom
Not heard outside of New England, Buffalo Tom were groovy, loud band from Boston. This is my favorite rocker of theirs.

4. #1 Crush by Garbage
Is this even a song? It's as much of a song as Madonna's Justify My Love and has that same sexiness to it. You can find it on The Romeo and Juliet soundtrack.
5. Five Fathoms by Everything But The Girl
They  got into sounding like a club band after Missing was remixed by a DJ and made them a lot of money.
6. Waiting For Tonight by Jennifer Lopez
No Comment

7. Mixed Bizness by Beck
Midnight Vultures was Beck's attempt to make a dance and R&B album. Some of it worked well while other songs were just ludicrous.
8. Sex-O-Matic Venus Freak by Macy Gray
No shame sometimes makes a good song. She tells us how her man makes her behave like a porn star and it's a good thing.
9. Always on the Run by Lenny Kravitz
So god damned cool was Lenny back in the day. All the white kids wanted to be like him. Slash wrote the guitar  for this song and then played with Lenny.

10.Got Let It Out by Oasis
Not the boys best effort but it's not in retrospect.
11.Made Of Stone by The Stone Roses
The band that was Oasis before Oasis. Only if they had toured in the States . . .
12.Verse Chorus Verse by Nirvana
The Secret track from the, No Alternative album. It's in my top ten Nirvana songs.
13.Porcelain by Moby
Moby was huge for a bout a year and this was one of the reasons why.
14.Kissing A Fool by George Michael
Smokey bars and whiskey were made for this song. This song was back when the former lead singer of Wham! was the brightest star on Mtv and his album, Faith was a genre crossing phenom.

15.Suffragette City by David Bowie
The Spiders From Mars, Ziggy Stardust, they were amazing
16.Guerilla Radio by Rage Against the Machine
I love when a band stays angry!
17.Ain't No Right by Jane's Addiction
Another example how the coolest band in the world in their prime.
18.Fire by The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Classic rock exemplified in one great song by the greatest rock guitarist ever.
